Hp.stonji are Hans Platzgumer and Jens Döring, two melancholic souls producing
artificial music, sharply cut hightek breakbeats and sinister ambient
soundscapes with an imminent sense for melodies.
2 powerbooks floating online between their native Austria & Germany,
constantly demanding the unexpected as they explore the CPU core’s solitary
mind.
These condensed offbeat electro tracks, always on the verge of collapsing,
still remain calm and touching in their harsh strange beauty.

On stage they perform with Georg Gaigl’s exclusive visuals projected onto
the covers of their laptops.

2004/05 Hp.stonji completed successful live shows in New York, Bucarest, Braga, Brussels, Vienna, Munich, Bolzano, London, Glasgow, Innsbruck or Manchester amongst other towns.

The duo's first release 'Metic EP' (2004) and the full lenght interactive debut CD
‘mélaina cholé’ on spezialmaterial / baked-goods (february 2005) gained instant success and made it to a list of BBC's best albums of the year.
Spring 2006 will see the release of their new album 'Syntonum', where they elaborated their particular vision of electronic music and combined it with analogue sound elements such as classical guitars or accordions.

In addition to their innovative work under the Hp.stonji moniker the 2 musicians also collaborate as E:GUM for more dancefloor-minded electro with catchy vocals and released E:GUM's debut album 'Keyboard Lies' on Klein records in May 2005.

Jens Döring und Hans Platzgumer aka HP.STONJI haben sich in vergangenen Jahren als Innovatoren elektronischer Musik und multimedialer Arbeiten mit zahlreichen Auftritten auf internationalen Festivals und ihren Veröffentlichungen ‘Metic’ und ‘Mélaina Cholé’einen Stammplatz auf höchstem Niveau kontemporärer Electronica gesichert.
Auf ihren virtuell vernetzten Powerbooks produzieren sie artifizielle Musik, die immer wieder neu die Grenzen digitaler Klangforschung auslotet ohne dabei jemals den Bezug zu popmusikalischen Grundwerten außer Acht zu lassen.
Ihre in England erschienene, von der Kritik hochgelobte Musik „spricht“ anstatt nur „Gesprochenes“ zu sein.

HP.STONJI machen dabei das Ping-Pong-Spiel digitaler Binär-Codes ebenso transparent wie sie sich – ausgehend von (noch) identifizierbaren Piano/Klavier/Gitarre/Akkordion-Klängen & Sounds - dem nicht Codierbaren, nicht Darstellbaren, dem an den (digitalen) Rändern und vermeintlichen (Daten-)Abfällen schlummernden Potentialen und Intensitäten nähern. In ihren Laptops ereignen sich molekulare Verkettungen aus digitalem Sound-Stottern als Basis/Grundbedingung für neue (Fremd-)Sprachen (neues, mehrdimensionales, raumkrümmendes Hören) und computergeneriertem Sound-Zerfall (asignifikante Brüche die als diskontinuierliche Zick-Zack-Richtungswechsel die auch Differenz zwischen den „Ursprungs-Sounds“ und dessen Mutationen/Transformationen zur akustischen Disposition stellen).
Durchaus mit Pop als unsichtbarer Variablen (oder als Geheimsignifikant) produziert das großteils nur via Internet kommunizierende und Daten/Soundfiles austauschende Duo ein aurales Dehnen, Strecken, Verbiegen, Häckseln und (Zer-)Brechen, bei dem gleichermaßen herkömmliche Laptop-Musik-Live-Präsentationen wie mitunter auch schon tradierte Electronica-Hörgewohnheiten in Frage gestellt werden.
